I enjoy both Abstract and representational art and recently been moving towards a mix of both. Deconstruction of a realistic subject into abstraction is something that inspires me. I want to break down what I see into simple shapes in order to reveal that one thing which brings wonder and excitement to my subject. This new series “Shape of Light” aims to see the human form as a simple collection of shapes, to intensify the light and feel it's warmth.

Painting brings me joy. I am drawn to the question “what if?”...the quest for what I am capable of finding today. The ongoing uncertainty which unfolds during a piece has become exciting and makes me come back to the studio often, compelling me to do the work I am doing now. I am moved by lots of art, but the overwhelming themes that excites me are light, line, and simplicity of shape in the complex.

I currently work with a limited palette of acrylics on multiple paintings at one time. This allows time and distance to find the magic, to play freely between canvases without being too focused on any one result. It's also been interesting to me on how line can impact a painting. It's subtle and “not so subtle” presence. To me, it invokes a feeling of “unfinished” and allows the viewer to be a part of the painting's history.

I hope you enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed creating it.
