About the Artist

I enjoy both Abstract and representational art and am moving towards a mix of both. Deconstruction of a realistic subject into abstraction is something that inspires me. I want to break down what I see into simple shapes in order to reveal that one thing which brings wonder and excitement to my subject. My ongoing series “Shape of Light” aims to see the subject matter as a collection of shapes, to uncover its essence and beauty.

Painting brings me joy. I am drawn to the question “what if?”...the quest for what I am capable of finding today. The ongoing uncertainty which unfolds during a piece has become exciting and makes me come back to the studio often, compelling me to do the work I am doing now. I am moved by lots of art, but the overwhelming themes that excites me are light, line, and simplicity of shape in the complex.

I currently work with acrylics (adding pencil, crayon and marker) on multiple paintings at one time. This allows time and distance to find the magic, to play freely between canvases without being too focused on any one result. It's also been interesting to me on how line can impact a painting. It's subtle and “not so subtle” presence. To me, it invokes a feeling of “unfinished” and “raw”, thus allowing the viewer to be a part of the painting's history.
